Mixed Use

An island site incorporating motor related showrooms, offices, and retail outlets. The upper road level accommodates showrooms, in a steel and glass structure, with terminating double volume spaces. The upper ground level provides double fronted showrooms by provision of an open parking piazza. A circular vehicle ramp and internal stairs connect all levels. The lower street level accommodates a petrol service station with an aerofoil shaped canopy. Retail street interface is accommodated at the forecourt level. This auto related centre accommodates the vibrancy and movement systems inherent in this unique island site.

Mixed Use

Situated on one of the major arterial roads of the business district of Riyadh, the corner development consists of a mixed-use tower and lower shopping precinct. Urban marker qualities are emphasised by the form of the circular tower. The form incorporates external recessed set backs, providing the residential units effectively with external gardens in the sky. A street level shopping precinct is separated from the tower block by wrapping around the base of the tower with the intervening space providing a more discrete off street entrance to both the tower and shopping centre.

Mixed Use

As part of the urban design plan for the Umhlanga New Town, the boulevard and fountain circle were central to the townscape design. As the City Lodge Hotel was already developed on a segment of the circle opposite the main entrance to the Gateway Shopping Centre, the remaining segments of the circle needed to acknowledge the form and heights of this and other surrounding buildings. The proposal for this adjacent site responded to the circular urban framework parameters, incorporated elements, in harmony with the linkages formed by the adjacent buildings and urban spaces.

Mixed Use

A conceptual proposal for an iconic corporate office building, with presence on an important intersection of two arterial roads leading into the industrial area north of the Umgeni River. The proposed elevated single level office floor floats over a vertical access core and a minimal column structure. The column structure is set inboard of the external perimeter. Fenestration is continuous with solar shading, hung from a projecting flat concrete roof structure. Solidity is balanced with a floating effect of the roof and floor structure, providing the building with a presence within its industrial environmental setting.
