A competition called for entries for the redevelopment of sites on Duke of Edinburgh Street, the main boulevard in the Mauritian capital. The brief called for the integration of a low rise building for a banking institution and a tower block for commercial office letting. The moving of the lift and service core to the corner periphery of the typical floor plate, provided a freeing up of the remaining floor area as well as providing a dramatic views from the view lifts of the surrounding cityscape The shape of the office floor plates was determined by the awkwardly shaped site.
The elevational treatment differentiated the plinth building from the tower block. Masonry shading devices were applied to the plinth building whilst the tower block utilized double skin glazing with energy glass integrated with automated sun louvres between the glass skins.
