Durban Country Club: Halfway House

2005

Durban

* as SVA(Durban)

The halfway house is conceived as a freestanding pavilion structure, affording spectacular views of the 15th green and the 10th tee box and offers visitors relaxation and enjoyment in the setting of a world-class golf course. Whilst predominantly acting as a facility for golfers, the design of the building is flexible enough to accommodate other membership functions. Functionally, the building includes space for washroom facilities, together with a kitchen and server capable of adaptation to a variety of catering options.

The building is fronted by glazed sliding screens that allow Durban’s optimal weather conditions to be experienced year round whilst be able to offer protection from the elements if necessary.

The building responds to the environment with a generous deep shaded verandah structure, which blends the spatial experience of the environment with a light-weight structure unimpeded by column structures.
