City Lodge Hotel - O R Tambo

Due to a program of upgrading and extending of the existing chain, the hotel at Isando, Johannesburg was increased by 60 keys, in a new separate three storey wing, linked to the end of an existing bedroom wing. The new wing formed a right angle junction with the existing, which differentiated and define the junction of old and new buildings. This is expressed by a glazed corner tower, incorporating vertical circulation. The existing public space was increased in area and refurbished. This included a new entrance canopy, revamped foyer and meeting room facilities.
City Lodge Hotel - Gateway

The site is located on Palm Boulevard, Gateway responding to the urban context in the corner treatment of the lift tower and the treatment of the major public space. The treatment of the curved corner glazing to the main stair as well as the glazed view-lift is the anchor point to the external treatment of the street facades. The curved façade facing Fountain Court and the creation of an internal but public courtyard defines the mass of the building as well as a contributes to the urban fabric of the precinct.
Dubai Pearl Hotel

The 52 storey, 680 key all-suite hotel, is a triangular floor plan, providing oblique sea views along the coast.. The lower levels of the tower comprise the public areas, with long stay apartments over 10 levels and the next 20 floors consist of hotel suites, with a further 6 levels of club and presidential suites. The top three floors are “Seven Star” dining and bar areas. The “Pearl of Dubai” is projected as a glass dome within the raking flanking glass curtain walls over the last 12 levels of the tower. A 60m communications spire completes 350m high tower.
The north facing site is on a rock platform, 3metres below road level. A single level pavilion at the lower level with a concrete roof over. The main entrance and garaging being at street level, with a planted roof surface, minimizing visual impact from the street. Entrance at street level is via a steel stair to the main living area within a double volume. The open plan accommodation, opens to both sides of the narrow plan form providing an natural cross ventilation as well as a low energy strategies for building services.
2007 - 2008
The development is sandwiched between the M4 motorway and situated at the entrance to the village. The design accommodates retail at street level with offices at first floor level and apartment on two floors above. Due to the fall of the site, parking is located on four levels behind the retail and street apartments. The roof of the parking structure provides an internal courtyard at “ground level” for the rear apartments. This provides the rear units with views over the front units with the “courtyards” between the two blocks provide outdoor amenities in a secure environment.
2011 - 2012
Serengeti National Park
A concession at Bologonja, in the northern sector of the national park, within the great migration route. The concession area provides for a construction area of 5km radius and an exclusivity zone of 20km radius. The design concept is being developed which will create an offering of 60 keys, with three different lodge types. These include a mountain lodge of 15 keys situated within an elevated site, a 30 key lodge, situated on a site close to the Bologonja River and a tented “camp” of 15 keys situated in a protected area close to a water hole.
Silverton Road Apartments

An apartment complex of seven triplex units, addressing the “downsizing home market”. The design encompassed a single level living area, accommodating the full range of facilities for a single couple. The lower level is designed to meet a semi-autonomous facility for visiting family with children, with self-catering facilities. At entry level includes a double garage off the entrance hall, with a separate access to a garret type apartment over the garage for a university student or alternatively a stay-in staff quarters. Each unit has access to a small garden off the lower ground level.
